Subsonic laminar/turbulent flow in de Laval nozzle

In previous subsection, the Laval Nozzle is introduced and the 1-D model and Fluent simulations are presented. In this subsection, more detail about how to simulate the subsonic laminar/turbulent flow in de Laval nozzle is given.

Subsonic laminar flow in de Laval nozzle

To run the case, the source-code can be downloaded here. To start the simulation, from , the following procedure should be followed:
  • $\texttt{blockMesh}$: Building the grid
  • $\texttt{rhoSimpleFoam}$: Simulation
  • $\texttt{paraFoam}$: Post-processing
And here are the plotted results for the velocity, pressure and streamlines:

Fig. a.6: OpenFOAM results, velocity, subsonic laminar flow

Fig. a.7: OpenFOAM results, pressure-streamlines, subsonic laminar flow

Subsonic turbulent flow in de Laval nozzle

The same procedure has to be followed using the sourse-codes for different turbulence models: $ k-\epsilon $ and $ k-\omega $ SST. Taking a look at the post-processing results show that by using a turbulence model, the results are still similar to laminar case. More details were described in the previous subsection.
